Violence-Silence

Often the natural response to violence or the threat of violence is to stay silent. Silence in the hope of not attracting further violence. This character is hollowed out by the experience and the silence.

  4. Thanks for the comments. deer prudence, your words "A very sad kind of silence. The silence of surrender" are wonderful and say much about the expression of the eyes which I wasn't quite finding the right words for. You now add a lot to this piece for me. :)

  5. Caela, cheers. The proportion of the smeared reds are meant to show then ever present real and potential violence in the background of this persons life. The figure tries to live in the more benign colours and white but the red intrudes.

  7. That last comment I made sounded curt after rereading it.
I would like to say, Hi lewis henderson, yes I agree, prudence said it well.

  8. Strong image and powerful message. It is important to discuss what no one wants to talk about. Thanks for the reminder.
