- Ferocious -I said.I killed.I said.I saw.
-
- Who killed Cock Robin?
- I, said the Sparrow,
- with my bow and arrow,
- I killed Cock Robin.
- Who saw him die?
- I, said the Fly,
- with my little eye,
- I saw him die.
- Who caught his blood?
- I, said the Fish,
- with my little dish,
- I caught his blood.
- Who'll make the shroud?
- I, said the Beetle,
- with my thread and needle,
- I'll make the shroud.
- Who'll dig his grave?
- I, said the Owl,
- with my pick and shovel,
- I'll dig his grave.
- Who'll be the parson?
- I, said the Rook,
- with my little book,
- I'll be the parson.
- Who'll be the clerk?
- I, said the Lark,
- if it's not in the dark,
- I'll be the clerk.
- Who'll carry the link?
- I, said the Linnet,
- I'll fetch it in a minute,
- I'll carry the link.
- Who'll be chief mourner?
- I, said the Dove,
- I mourn for my love,
- I'll be chief mourner.
- Who'll carry the coffin?
- I, said the Kite,
- if it's not through the night,
- I'll carry the coffin.
- Who'll bear the pall?
- We, said the Wren,
- both the cock and the hen,
- We'll bear the pall.
- Who'll sing a psalm?
- I, said the Thrush,
- as she sat on a bush,
- I'll sing a psalm.
- Who'll toll the bell?
- I said the Bull,
- because I can pull,
- I'll toll the bell.
- All the birds of the air
- fell a-sighing and a-sobbing,
- when they heard the bell toll
- for poor Cock Robin.
- From the Snakeskin Sketchbook series. 'Who killed Cock Robin'

ASHEAD's been smoking - Mesmerized IF
'ASHEAD's Been Smoking' is from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series.
Maybe because Ashead's been smoking he's finding the formation of little birdies flying past him somewhat mesmerizing.

Pass It On
Jackie Hosking of the weekly e-zine Pass It On has included my 'Suds' children's illustration and short interview with me in the latest issue. (issue 355. Monday, September 12th 2011)
The suds illustration is from my children's book portfolio and pre snakeskin sketchbook which most of my recent posts have included. You'll need to go back a few months to see more of the children's book and educational work.
What is Pass It On?
Pass It On is a weekly, interactive, networking e-zine for all those involved with or interested in the children's writing & illustrating industry. (Australian focus)
Meanwhile here is a monkey eating an iceblock. It's a detail from a spread in my Monkey Match books.

Boundary - Illustration Friday
'Boundary' is from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series. This boundary is purely artistic? Our character is hemmed in only by the texture and colour of the background. Unable to pass past this barrier to the blue sky beyond. Or is it the character's mindscape? Unable to pass from one defined construct to see an alternative way.
Redbubble card.

FB Update, WTF? - Illustration Friday
Facebook update, WTF?.
It's a mystery how that got there, Who ? What? .....ugh.
Could just as much be an ipod ad as FB.
I thought that Illustration Friday's topic 'Mysterious' was a good opportunity to post this character who's in the grips of a major sinking feeling.
From the Snakeskin Sketchbook series and available at Redbubble and Artflakes.

DISGUISE - Illustration friday - Camo & Flage
Camo & Flage is a tribute to wide-eyed gun-totting would be hunters. Camo, he's the real hunter, tall and carrying grandpa's big gun. Flage, on the other hand knows deep down he's only playing at being the hunter, hence the 'handgun' he carries with him. Both have spent hours on their outfits that are so good that both Camo & Flage are likely to come home on the hood of an SUV rather than driving it themselves.
A fun one posted here for illustration friday.
Media is pen & ink characters with and acrylic paint background on plywood.

A gesture for a gesture - Illustration Friday
'A gesture for a gesture.' AKA 'For Heaven's Sake'
It's about asking or pleading for a little sign from a higher authority.
Or is it about osmosis. Waiting for the movement from where there is more to where there is less.
Print available at Redbubble and Artflakes.

Illustration Friday - Medication
'Medication' is another image from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series of drawings.
This one has incarnated into a finished print through the inspiration of the Illustration Friday topic 'Remedy'.
I thought that this was an apt image to address the topic as the remedy for much of life's maladies, both physical and emotional, can be a little dose of love in your life.
The technique once again is a combination of ink drawing and a digitally created textural background. Print available at Redbubble.

Midsummer Night's Madness - Illustration Friday
'Midsummer Night's Madness' is from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series.
This piece was inspired by the Illustration Friday suggested topic 'Midsummer Night'.
"Why this is very midsummer madness" - William Shakespeare.
I couldn't go past this quote without thinking of a good bungy jump on a warm summer's eve and thinking about holidaying in Queenstown New Zealand.
The technique is a combination of crosshatch ink drawing and a digitally created textural background made with photoshop filters over an Illustrator created background. Print available at Redbubble.
