Who killed Cock Robin?

Ferocious -
I said.
I killed.
I said.
I saw.

Who killed Cock Robin?
I, said the Sparrow,
with my bow and arrow,
I killed Cock Robin.
Who saw him die?
I, said the Fly,
with my little eye,
I saw him die.
Who caught his blood?
I, said the Fish,
with my little dish,
I caught his blood.
Who'll make the shroud?
I, said the Beetle,
with my thread and needle,
I'll make the shroud.
Who'll dig his grave?
I, said the Owl,
with my pick and shovel,
I'll dig his grave.
Who'll be the parson?
I, said the Rook,
with my little book,
I'll be the parson.
Who'll be the clerk?
I, said the Lark,
if it's not in the dark,
I'll be the clerk.
Who'll carry the link?
I, said the Linnet,
I'll fetch it in a minute,
I'll carry the link.
Who'll be chief mourner?
I, said the Dove,
I mourn for my love,
I'll be chief mourner.
Who'll carry the coffin?
I, said the Kite,
if it's not through the night,
I'll carry the coffin.
Who'll bear the pall?
We, said the Wren,
both the cock and the hen,
We'll bear the pall.
Who'll sing a psalm?
I, said the Thrush,
as she sat on a bush,
I'll sing a psalm.
Who'll toll the bell?
I said the Bull,
because I can pull,
I'll toll the bell.
All the birds of the air
fell a-sighing and a-sobbing,
when they heard the bell toll
for poor Cock Robin.

ASHEAD's been smoking - Mesmerized IF

'ASHEAD's Been Smoking' is from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series.
Maybe because Ashead's been smoking he's finding the formation of little birdies flying past him somewhat mesmerizing.

Pass It On

Jackie Hosking of the weekly e-zine Pass It On has included my 'Suds' children's illustration and short interview with me in the latest issue. (issue 355. Monday, September 12th 2011)
The suds illustration is from my children's book portfolio and pre snakeskin sketchbook which most of my recent posts have included. You'll need to go back a few months to see more of the children's book and educational work.

What is Pass It On?
Pass It On is a weekly, interactive, networking e-zine for all those involved with or interested in the children's writing & illustrating industry. (Australian focus)

Meanwhile here is a monkey eating an iceblock. It's a detail from a spread in my Monkey Match books.

Boundary - Illustration Friday

'Boundary' is from the Snakeskin Sketchbook series. This boundary is purely artistic? Our character is hemmed in only by the texture and colour of the background. Unable to pass past this barrier to the blue sky beyond.  Or is it the character's mindscape? Unable to pass from one defined construct to see an alternative way.

FB Update, WTF? - Illustration Friday

Facebook update, WTF?.
It's a mystery how that got there, Who ? What? .....ugh.
Could just as much be an ipod ad as FB.
I thought that Illustration Friday's topic 'Mysterious' was a good opportunity to post this character who's in the grips of a major sinking feeling.
From the Snakeskin Sketchbook series and available at Redbubble and Artflakes.

Death and the Raven

Death and the Raven is from the Snakeskin sketchbook series.
Raven has a habit of showing up here and there at some of the more inopportune moments of life.

Medium is pen & ink with on a digitally created background. The deep background here also has a texture from the scanned snakeskin cover of the Snakeskin Sketchbook itself.

Available once again at Redbubble and Artflakes.
